Yeah that is a picture of me in 1983 in olden days attire. I know I was born in the wrong generation. I do so love the times of yesteryear. My mother says I look like my great-aunts on the Gardner side, when they were young, so as we find and locate pictures, I guess we will find out just how much I do.

    ---: ** 1779 Fincastle, VA court record of General William Campbell listing the names includes three individuals named James Blevins, i.e. Jas. Blevins Jun., Jas. Blevins, Sen., and Jas. Blevins. Also listed are John Blevins, Daniel Blevins, Wm. Blevins, Rich'd Blevins and Jonathan Blevins. The 1779 date means that probably all of these individuals were born 1763 or before.
    --- By 1782, only one of the James appears to still be a resident of Montgomery Co., Virginia (the one in Swift's company).
    --- 1782 Montgomery Co., VA personal tax list: Blevins, James-- 1 tithe, 0 slaves, 0 horse, 0 cattle (was his property confiscated?)
    --- 1793 Wythe tax list, Dist. 2 is a James Blevans with 1 horse and no blacks. Was James' property confiscated during the Revolution? Although he is on the Swift muster, his name appears near that of Capt. John Cox on the 1782 personal property tax list.

    --- Timothy Murphy [b Dublin, Ireland] who shot Simon Frazier, a British commander at the Battle of Saratoga, 1777 , bought his land in partnership with James Blevins. When he died the part of the land in North Carolina went to the Blevins and the part in Virginia to the Murphys.

      -- NOTE: Wells Blevins was the son of James Blevins and Margaret or Elizabeth Ward.2 Wells Blevins was born between 1755 and 1760; He was at least 21 in 1789. birth date is based on his age in multiple censuses. Somebody has erected a tombstone for him with a bad date on it. "There are numerous instances of this type of well meaning but careless tombstone tinkering in the Helton area. At Baptist Chapel on Helton Creek someone has placed a new stone (last 10 years) for Wells Blevins who died in 1840 that reads 1775 - 1840. Census records place this Wells Blevins as born ca. 1755-1760, and he is over age 21 in a 1789 Russell Co, VA tax list "

    I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father and his father and all our fathers, and in front to see my son and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes were my eyes. As I felt so they had felt, and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end.     A Prayer for Genealogists

    Lord, help me dig into the past
      And sift the sands of time,

      This family tree of mine.

    WARNING....GENEALOGY POX; [very contagious to adults]

    SYMPTOMS:
    Continual complaints as to need for names, dates and places. Patient has blank expression, sometimes deaf to spouse and children. Has no taste for work of any kind, except feverishly looking through records at libraries, courthouses and internet, Has compulsion to write letters and send e-mail. Swears at mailman when he doesn't stop and leave mail. Frenquents strange places such as cemeteries, ruins and remote desolate country areas. Makes secret night calls. Hides phone bills from spouse and mumbles to [him or her] self. Has strange far away look in eyes.

    TREATMENT:
    Medication is useless. There is no known cure. Disease is not fatal, but gets progressively worse. Patient should attend genealogy workshops, subscribe to genealogy magazines and be given a quiet corner in the house where he or she can be alone.

    REMARKS:
    The unusual nature of this disease is...the sicker the patient gets, the more he or she seems to enjoy it!
